Oprah Winfrey revealed that she underwent back-to-back knee surgeries in late 2021, which lead to her making a promise to herself.

The 68-year-old media mogul opened up about her surgeries on Wednesday’s Oprah Daily video.

She revealed that both surgeries – which happened in August and November of 2021 – lead her to swear to be more active and ‘fully in my body’ after recovering.

‘I had double knee surgery last year. I had knee surgery in August, and then I had another knee surgery in November,’ Winfrey shared.

‘When I came home the first time, I literally could not lift my leg,’ she added, revealing she made a promise after that moment.

‘I couldn’t lift my heel off of the bed, and I vowed if I was ever able to get up, walk around, and move again—that I would take advantage of movement, exercise, and of being able to be fully in my body,’ Winfrey said.

She added, ‘As I was rehabilitating, I started hiking. Everyday, I tried to hike more and do more.’

‘My appreciation for every organ and every limb has expanded exponentially,’ she added.

Her admission comes just days after the media mogul hinted at her return to acting.

She was in a discussion for Variety’s The Power of Women issue alongside director Ava DuVernay, who directed her in her last film role, 2018’s A Wrinkle In Time.

‘Listen, I am living on a mount in Maui…’ Oprah said, but when Ava asked if ‘something perfect came along,’ Oprah hinted something might have.

‘I actually do think something perfect is coming, and I kind of know what it is,’ Oprah teased.

‘Let me tell you, it takes a lot to get me off the porch,’ she joked, though failed to offer any more details about this mystery project.

Winfrey collaborated with DuVernay in A Wrinkle in Time and Selma, which Winfrey produced and DuVernay directed.

DuVernay also created Netflix’s When They See Us, which Winfrey produced, and Queen Sugar, which aired on Oprah’s OWN television network.
